Smart Living Homes was established in 2009 in Carlsbad, CA. The Owner of the company, Donald E. O'Connor, was born and has lived most of his life in California; more specifically in San Diego county.  Mr. O’Connor’s background and experience along with his entrepreneurial spirit at a very young age included starting his own lawn mowing business at age 13.  He began working in the field of construction by age 15 and later worked various types of jobs that included fast foods, auto mechanic, clothing sales and various other jobs.  While attending college in 1985, he started his own janitorial and maintenance company and continued working in this field as owner and operator for over 13 years.  Early on, he began doing small construction and maintenance projects and eventually obtained his contractors license.  After working for several years in the construction industry and gaining knowledge and experience, Mr. O'Connor acquired a California B license in 1998 and started his own company specializing in water intrusion and flood & fire restoration services.  He has seen how these elements can easily destroy or damage a structure.  Today, after more than 15 years of experience in the construction industry, Mr. O’Connor is the President/CEO of APS General Contractors, Inc. located in Carlsbad, CA and is now pursuing his dream of educating America to build "smarter" using the Smart Living Homes concept of building.

APS General Contractors, Inc. is a licensed B-General Contractor in the state of California and has been providing quality construction services throughout San Diego County for the past twelve years.  APS has established great working relationships with many of our customers, sub-contractors, suppliers and other business professionals in the San Diego area inclusive in the construction industry.  APS General Contractors, Inc. is a member of BNI- Business Network International-Carlsbad Chapter “Wave of Success” and a member of the United States Green Building Council and is a certified member of the Green Mechanical Council.  In addition, we are affiliated with Koala-Tee Green and Green Hab America.  We continue to be educated in the area of green building and will always look at the best way to build and maintain environmentally friendly structures that last for many years to come.

Smart Living Homes is focused on providing the best, most energy efficient and greenest way of building homes across America.  We can achieve this through education and training and by providing, in our opinion, the best way to build any structure by using Structural Concrete Insulated Panels or SCIPS.  The benefits of building with this material are numerous as we establish a protocol to build this way across America. We will ambitiously achieve this through our continued teaching and learing experiences and by educating others about this method of building.

Smart Living Homes is involved in helping bring the first manufacturing plant of SCIP Panels to America and help create more American based manufacturing jobs as it increases and grows and also by producing a superior engineered and manufactured American product using the best quality recycled materials available.  These “Eco-Tech" panels are a high-quality designed panel with unique features and we believe are the best panels available today.

In addition, every Smart Living Home built will integrate a solar-powered system that will allow the owner to produce enough power to satisfy all of their home power needs.  We will also implement the most energy efficient heating and cooling systems available on the market today.  A superior air quality control system is installed in every home.  The plumbing supply system in every home will use the PEX Manifold system to allow for more control and safety of the home.  We will also install only 'EnergyStar' rated appliances to help conserve energy and protect the environment.  And finally, total control of the home’s mechanical, electrical and security systems will be achieved by including a “Smart Room” control area in every home.  This will allow the home owner to control from any remote device such as a PDA phone or computer these working systems of the home from any where in the world.

Our goal is to teach, through educating others to build America smarter by using greener methods of construction and greener self-sustaining materials that will last a long time and have a low impact on the environment.  We feel that building the Smart Living Homes way will achieve this objective and each home owners style will easily fit into every type of designed home.
